Dry Socket or maybe a case of the Rick Tocchet?

He was totally my favourite player in the 1991 version of NHL Hockey on EA Sports on the Sega Genesis. The guy had some sweet moves, was super fast, could score at will and was bad ass tough. Now he’s a betting fanatic. The only crappy part about that game though, was how easy it was to score on the goalie, by simply smashing into him.

“Down by 1, 10 seconds left, what do i do, smash into the goalie…instant tie game!!!”

My brother, friends and I solved this problem by punching very hard anyone who scored in this manner.

I’m glad hockey games fixed that problem decades ago.

Now onto dry socket. Has anyone else had this problem following a tooth extraction? If you have, then damn, you know it to be an uncomfortable pain.

I wonder if Rick Tocchet ever had dry socket?

hi blog.

i’m sorry.  i guess nothing has really got my goat recently.  too busy with work and livin’ i guess.  plus, i spend so much time on a computer all day long, the last thing i want to do is come home, fire up the ol’ compute whore and start typing.

i could rant for days about canadian politics and how craptacular it is at the moment, and how scary the thought of a stephen harper majority is, but i just don’t have it in me.

soon blog, soon.

The Duffster

Today is the big day!  The day all the Mike Duffy’s and Llyod Robertson’s have

been crooning over for months and months.  The Ontario Provincial Election.

Some big things are happening today.

  1. Besides voting for your local candidate, there is also a referendum on changing the current electoral system to a mixed member proportional system.  I’ve heard many arguments as to why people think mmp is a bad thing, but none of them hold much ground to the fact that it is wayyyyyyyyyy more democratic than the first past the post system we have now.  Getting 70% of the seats with only around 44% of the popular vote, doesn’t make any sense to me.  Yes, if mmp is adopted, there will be growing pains, but it’s about time governments starting working together to make our cities, provinces/territories, and country a better place, rather than just looking out for the self interests of any given party.  Will change happen?  that’s hard to say, seeing as how it has to pass a “super majority” of 60% of the voters, and has to be supported by something like well over 50% of the ridings.  Many of the young people i’ve talked to (19-35) are voting for change.  The only naysayers are generally of the 45+ crowd.  You know, the kind of people who get pissed off if Tim Hortons changes one little thing on their menu, and they talk about that and only that for a couple weeks.  The scary thing is, these are also the people with the highest voter turnout.  So get out and vote young people!!!
  2. The Green Party is posed to win a seat in the Grey-Bruce riding.  Shane Jolley, a bicycle shop owner, has been getting increased support, and media coverage after a poll last week indicated he was only around 8% behind the incumbent Conservative candidate.  If elected, Jolley would be the first ever Green Party MPP in Ontario, and the first ever elected Green Party member elected to any government in Canada.  The only reason no Province or the country has not elected a green MPP or MP in the past, our antiquated electoral system.  Go Shane!!

Regardless of your political views, which electoral system you like, or whether you’re a double, double or simply hate Tim Hortons, go out and vote today.  It’s the one day we have, to exercise what little power is given to us, to effect change.

MSN Messenger Virus

so yesterday, i was chatting on msn, then another message screen pops up from my friend, asking me if they can use this picture of me on their myspace page. so, i was like, “hmm…what picture could that be?”. so, i downloaded the file (since it was my friend) and tried to open it and everything went crazy from there. I emailed her asking what picture it was and she wrote back saying she didn’t send anything, etc. etc. Apparently a viral code is using her MSN messenger service to send messages to people and get them to download this virus. So, i’m going home to do a sweep of the ol’ comp ute whore and see what’s what.

just thought i’d share this little tidbit with everyone (all 4 of you).

HDTV, yeah you know me!

So, last week i severely upgraded on my video game playin’, movie watching and sports perusing experiences by purchasing a HDTV. Have i made the leap from urban hippy to a hippy with yuppy tendencies, or a hiccup as i like to call them? Maybe so, but that’s best left for another day.

My first impression was “ooooo…that’s pretty”. However, not having an xbox 360, nor HD Cable or Satellite i could not fully enjoy what the tv had to offer me. I tried in vain to find the original XBox HDTV pack (like everything for the XBox, this was sold seperately). However, i quickly found out they discontinued this item after the advent of the 360 and can only be found on amazon and in select hock shops around Canada. None of my hock shops have it, nor do i have a credit card, so i was out of luck. The good news?! I plan on purchasing a 360 in the coming month or so to enjoy the lovely game to be that is Halo 3, plus all the other games i’ve been crooning over but haven’t had the intimate time to play with (Gears of War, Git Hero I II III, Oblivion, Bioshock, etc.)

Back to the TV. It is an Acer. yes, an Acer. my rationale for this:

  1. every review i’d read on the tv had been very favourable
  2. it was easily half the price of the bigger name brands
  3. i got it on sale too

so far so good. we got the HDTV cable package the other day and oh boy do my redskins look sweet in HD. i’m very stoked for Raptors basketball later this fall. seeing bosh dunk on v.c. in HD will be a thing of beauty.

oh, and i’m also addicted to the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic Channel.

ssssst…poke

A Daymak Electric Bike

Are electric bikes a viable answer to motorized commutes within the city or simply a lazy bikers wet dream?

I’ve wanted one (specifically one that can carry me and a friend) for a few months now. In the near future i may purchase one to get me to and from work within the city or for those slightly longer shopping trips around town.

My knee is currently unable to pedal power me around town (an unfortunate frisbee accident that has resulted in my beer belly getting slightly larger due to my inactivity), therefore an electric bike may be the answer.

From April to December i could conceivably ride around for pennies of electricity a day saving valuable fossil fuels. Further, if i switch to a green energy provider, i can stop relying on fossil fuels to get me around town altogether.

Any other thoughts on electric bikes/cars or alternative modes of transportation??
